Trossard starts a new chapter in Turkey

Leandro Trossard has completed his move from Arsenal to Besiktas, bringing an end to his spell in North London and opening a new stage of his career in the Turkish Super Lig.

The Belgian forward has signed a three-year contract with Besiktas, with an option for an additional season. The transfer fee is reported at around €18 million, to be paid in instalments over three years. For Besiktas, it is a statement signing: an experienced Premier League attacker, still capable of playing across the front line and offering both goals and creativity.

Arsenal move on after a useful spell

Trossard joined Arsenal from Brighton in January 2023 and became a valuable squad player under Mikel Arteta. He was not always the first name in the starting XI, but his intelligence, movement and ability to play in several attacking roles made him an important option in difficult matches.

According to the latest reports, Trossard made 174 appearances for Arsenal and scored 36 goals. Last season, he also contributed six goals and six assists in the Premier League, helping Arsenal during a successful domestic campaign.

Even so, Arsenal’s attacking plans have continued to evolve, and the club appear ready to refresh the squad while allowing Trossard to take on a more central role elsewhere. At 31, the Belgian international still has enough quality and experience to become one of Besiktas’ key attacking players.

A smart move for Besiktas

For Besiktas, the deal looks like a mix of ambition and practicality. Trossard brings Champions League and Premier League experience, but also the flexibility to play on the wing, as a second striker or in a more central creative role.

The move also gives the Turkish club a player with international pedigree. Trossard has been a regular part of the Belgium national team setup and has played at major tournaments, which should help him adapt quickly to a demanding environment in Istanbul.
